WHAT IS HYPERLOOP?
Hyperloop is a new form of ground transportation. It can help passengers travel at over 700 miles per hour in a floating pod, which races inside the tube with low pressure above or below the ground. It is a sealed tube with low pressure, free air resistance, and friction. Introduction to the hyperloop trains describes how the pods carrying passengers will travel through a tube or tunnel, the air removed from the tube to reduce the friction.
HISTORY OF HYPERLOOP
Before diving deep into the introduction to the hyperloop trains, it is important to know the history of the hyperloop and how it came into being in 2020 with modern technologies. One Of the first people who proposed the theory was British inventor George Medhurst In the 18th century. He was the pioneer to use the concept in 1799 of compressed air as propulsion and filed a patent for a system that could carry goods in pipes made up of iron.
He was the first person who gave the introduction to the hyperloop trains. Later in 1845, an experimental cargo station was presented to create a vacuum between the train and rails using atmospheric pressure. The experiment was shut down after two years, but the concept of a cargo station appeared in different parts of Europe. Introduction to the hyperloop trains began with Goddard. In 1904 Robert H. Goddard proposed the vactrain concept.
In 1909 he wrote an article and discussed that a trail would travel from Newyork to Boston in just 12 minutes. Introduction to the hyperloop trains started after World War 2; a system made similar to the hyperloop. However, it used a cushion of air instead of magnetic resistance for propulsion. But the project did not complete because of the cost of infrastructure and lack of funding. Later in 1990, the same concept inherits to design a vacuum tube train that would take 45 minutes to travel from New York to Boston. But the project eventually shut down.
In 2012 Elon Musk, owner of Tesla and SpaceX took the idea to build a super-fast train system with his hyperloop alpha paper in 2013 as the introduction to the hyperloop trains. It discussed how modern technology would work and how much it would cost to build the fastest train system around the globe.
HOW DO HYPERLOOP TRAINS WORK?
Like all cars and traditional train systems, the hyperloop train doesn’t use wheels or tires; the pod’s design floats in air skis. It used a magnetic levitation system to reduce the friction and float in the air through the tube. Introduction to the hyperloop trains means understanding its components, including tube, pod, and terminal. As discussed, a tube is a large sealed low-pressure system built either above or below the ground.
The pod is like a big capsule that travels inside the tunnel under a controlled environment. It uses magnetic levitation and electromagnetic and aerodynamic propulsion, making it travel alongside the tunnel. The pod would take power from the external linear motor similar to the Tesla Model S. The introduction to the hyperloop trains suggested that the hyperloop would take power from solar panels, placed right on the top of the tube, which will provide more energy to the train.
MAN BEHIND INTRODUCTION TO THE HYPERLOOP TRAINS MODEL
Elon Musk introduced the hyperloop trains model first in 2012 at an event, and later in 2013, he revealed the first design. Musk decided not to limit the hyperloop train model to himself; instead, he registered the model to share model with everyone. In the introduction to the hyperloop trains model, Musk also proposed that the train would be cheaper, faster, weatherproof, safe, and self-powering. It would also be less disruptive for the people living along the hyperloop train route.
After Elon musk propped the model, many companies started working on the idea. From 2013 to 2020, companies like Virgin Hyperloop and Zeleros began working on the hyperloop train through Elon Musk’s design. With the introduction to the hyperloop trains, Virgin hyperloop started developing hyperloop in 2016 after carrying out their first open-air test. The Company later showed the positive effects on the environment and economy in their study. Later in 2017, Virgin hyperloop completed the first full system test in a vacuum environment.
ROUTES FOR HYPERLOOP TRAINS
It is still unknown about the location of the hyperloop system. Many companies are working on the model and sketching different routes. The introduction to the hyperloop trains presented to countries including the US, Europe, and other countries. Potential routes for hyperloop trains include:
New York to Washington
DC Kansas City to St. Louis
Pune to Mumbai
Edinburgh to London
Toronto to Ottawa to Montreal
Chicago to Columbus to Pittsburgh
Miami to Orlando
Dallas to Laredo to Houston
Mexico City to Guadalajara
Glasgow to Liverpool
Bangalore to Chennai
Mumbai to Chennai.
VIRGIN HYPERLOOP FIRST HUMAN TEST
After Elon Musk’s introduction to the hyperloop trains model, many companies started working on the model. Virgin Hyperloop is one of the top companies that succeeded. Last year the Company conducted the first human test for hyperloop trains. The first two passengers to take an experience for the introduction to the hyperloop trains were Virgin’s Hyperloop chief technology officer and co-founder Josh Giegel and head of the passenger experience Sara Luchian.
They sat inside with a proper strap lock system in the pod and then transferred to an airlock to remove the air inside the hyperloop. It is a huge achievement for Virgin Hyperloop as the Company came into being with the introduction to the hyperloop trains to make the idea changed into the reality that Musk proposed about a futuristic transportation system. The Company conducted almost 400 tests, but it was the first time with human passengers. The later version will be able to transport 23 passengers.
The interior of the train is for people to make them comfortable with the latest technology. The introduction to the hyperloop trains showed the acceleration of the pod is similar to taking off a plane, and the same technology is used as of bullet train. After the first human test for the introduction to the hyperloop trains, things are on the positive and brighter side. It will be interesting to know more about it with time to evolve the world and transform the transportation system. It could boost the economy and reduce air travel, but all of this and more will take some time to know if it is successful.
